Catherine Candee has a 10+ year affiliation with the University of California leading strategic publishing. In 2003 she launched the eScholarship Repository at UC’s California Digital Library (CDL) to provide alternative publication services for the UC community. She forged a partnership with UC Press Director Lynne Withey, developing innovative publishing ventures that combined the unique talents and abilities of the Press and the CDL and setting the stage for the emergence of the “University as Publisher” at UC. Today the eScholarship Repository, a full-spectrum publishing platform and its nearly 40,000 publications reflect the creative output of the nearly 300 UC departments who publish with UC’s eScholarship Services.
In 2008, Catherine assumed an expanded leadership role in UC’s information, publishing and broadcast services, including the CDL and its eScholarship program, the Language Learning Consortium, University of California Press, UC College Prep Online, and UCTV. She has spoken and written widely on the “University as Publisher” and the expanding role of libraries. In April 2011 Catherine joined bepress as Vice-President for Marketing and Community Engagement.
