Abstract
This project will look at the state of brownfields redevelopment in rural Oregon. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is funding, and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEO) is conducting Targeted Brownfield Assessments (TBA) throughout Oregon. Oregon has even developed the Oregon Rural and Economically Distressed Site Assessment Initiative to specifically address brownfields in rural Oregon. But what happens after the assessment is done? Why do some sites move quickly into development, while others remain stalled? This paper will examine case studies of sites that have received funds for Site Specific Assessments, and analyze the data to determine what factors allow a site to move quickly through to redevelopment.
