Geri Wittig

Abstract

In the interview titled, "Game Girlz", Geri Wittig interviewed Vangie "Aurora" Beal about her creation of GameGirlz.com, a free website forum for women who are intrested in video games. In the discussion, Vangie explained that GameGirlz does not correlate with the feminist sites, but rather, created this site not specifically for women but it can be for any gender, including men. In addition, she believes that it is for women because they do not receive the same equality as men. Basically, the whole theme for the site is equality between men and women who share a common interest in video games. The whole purpose of GameGirlz.com is to make men and women feel safe when sharing their interests and thoughts of video games without feeling threatened by people in a toxic environment. In addition, they want a site where people do not feel like they do not have to scroll through the website and see semi-nude pictures. Another information that was brought up was when women developers would ask a question such as what kind of game do people want to see. Although there were no artists nor exhibits brought in this interview, Aurora mentions her editor, Damon, her weekly GameGirlz columnist, Mur, and a game called Half-Life. Overall, this interview gives an insight for the women who want to play video games.
