Personal Commentary
My father recalled that when I was about 8 years old, I asked him if he would support me until I had a doctorate in history. As it developed, he was not called on to do that‑‑my wife supported us through the doctorate‑‑but I did achieve the doctorate. My dream, at 8, was the right one for me. I taught for over 40 years and enjoyed both students and colleagues‑‑as well as the subject. I wish the younger generations entering our profession the same satisfaction and happiness.
