Traveled extensively all over the world most every summer, particularly Europe. I have been in all of the states except Rhode Island, including Hawaii and Alaska. I have visited all of the continents except South America and the Polar Continents. I did not teach Summer Sessions so My first wife and I, and later with my current wife, explored the world and found it exciting and most interesting. After I retired from San Jose State University, we continued our travels but at a more leisurely pace.
My first wife and I made 3 trips to Europe, about 7 weeks each.
In 1955, we traveled to: Britain, London, Paris, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Scotland and Ireland. We visited Parliament and the Courts many times.
In 1961 we traveled to London, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and Austria.
In 1965, we visited London, Paris, Berlin (West and East), Norway, Britain, Scotland.
My current wife and I have made many trips all over the world, USA and Canada. Our travels include:
1972: Hawaii (1 week); Europe (London, Italy, Austria, Germany, Holland, France), 6 1/2 weeks.
1973: Mexico (10 days); Guatemala (1 week).
1974: Caribbean cruise & Florida (2 1/2 weeks); East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, London and Paris), 3 1/2 weeks.
1975: Europe (London, Belgium, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Holland, Scotland), 6 1/2 weeks.
1976: Central America (Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala) 31 days; British Columbia (Vancouver City and Victoria), drove 16 days.
1977: Europe (Germany, Austria, Jugoslavia (Dubrovnik), Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, North Africa, Fez, Morocco, Marrakesh, Rabat, Casablanca, Tangiers, etc.), 6 1/2 weeks.
1978: South Pacific (Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tahiti), 25 days.
1979: Europe (London, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Switzerland, France, Holland), 6 weeks. (My wife was born in Holland and has relatives there with whom we stayed for several days.)
1980: Orient and India (Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Kashmir, Nepal), wonderful view of Mt. Everest and also got a look into China. We also stayed in Bangkok, Hong Kong and Hawaii, 31 days. 1982: Alaska and The Yukon Territory, 2 weeks.
1983: Europe (London, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland), 5 1/2 weeks.
1985: Great Britain and Europe (London, Switzerland, Antwerp W. Germany, France), back to London and on to Wales and Ireland, 6 weeks.
We continued traveling all over the USA by car but now are just happy to stay home and have fun here in Palo Alto!
