Personal Commentary

Director of Study Abroad in the College of Business, took 65 students to Thailand on Study Abroad classes in 2006 and 2007. Served as Visiting Professor at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand for many years. After SJSU retirement I continue to travel extensively internationally, conduct academic research in the area of international marketing, and serve as a Visiting Professor in Thailand.

Howard W. Combs is formerly Professor of Marketing at San Jose State University. The Department of Marketing is housed in the College of Business and includes decision sciences, and marketing. The 6,000+ alumni of this department hold successful positions in business and government in the Silicon Valley and throughout the world. Dr. Combs joined San Jose State University in August 1996 after serving for the previous 14 years in higher education in Virginia. He completed the Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Georgia in 1985. He holds both the M.B.A. and the B.A. in Economics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia. Teaching interests for Dr. Combs include advertising, marketing management, retailing, sales management, and pricing. He has published articles in a number of business journals and presented papers at numerous professional meetings. His research interests include public policy issues in marketing and in business, consumer behavior, retailing, advertising, banking, marketing technology, and marketing education.
