Abstract
The role of non-profit Christian organizations has long been caring for the poor. building communities, providing social services, and community organizing for policy changes. Many groups that have worked within this area have been very successful in improving the quality of life for the poor of the community, even sometimes creating meaningful relationships between residents and government officials who may have previously been distant and disconnected from their constituents. By establishing strong relationships within the community, trust could be built and over time improvements could be made. In this report, two non-profit Christian organizations. City Team Ministries and People Acting in Community Together (PACT), are closely analyzed to determine how they are successful in serving the low-income population in Santa Clara County in areas related to city planning, i.e. housing and community development issues . Apart from the accomplishments of implementing policies or the numbers of the people served through its programs, the participation from Church congregations is also a key component of their success.
