Abstract
This report is a product of field work, research and analysis carried out while working with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department Natural Areas Program during the fall and winter of 1999-2000. As part of the development of management plans establishing a set of policies and practices to protect and enhance San Francisco’s significant natural resource areas, 1 was asked by Recreation and Park Department staff to prepare an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) manual. This report provides information and recommendations for designing and implementing a coordinated exotic plant control program for San Francisco’s natural areas and is a modification of the draft prepared for the Recreation and Park Department.
Without the support and critical feedback of Lisa Wayne, director of the Natural Areas Program; Christopher Campbell, natural areas gardener; Jake Sigg, president of the California Native Plant Society; Sheila Daar, Daar/IPM Consulting Group; and Rinat Fried, editor extraordinaire, this report would not have been possible.
