Abstract
This project presents an object-oriented model for manufacturing integration utilizing Intelligent Agent techniques. The integration requirements are determined by increasing productivity, flexibility and quality demand. The model is based on the concept of Intelligent agents supporting various activities. The complex manufacturing functions are broken down into elemental tasks. An agent then automates the task. An Intelligent Agent is an autonomous software program that can operate independently and usually remotely. Agents can communicate with each other, human beings, machines and other resources such as databases. The use of standardized means of communication through widely accepted protocols is recommended. Agents have been developed for the Machine Tool Selection process, which is part of the Process Planning function. These agents have been developed in C/C++. The user interface has been developed using Visual Basic. This project delivers a working model based on the use of Object Oriented and Intelligent Agent techniques.
