Abstract

Design review is recognized in the general plans, specific plans, and zoning ordinances of many jurisdictions throughout the state as a necessary procedure to ensure that new construction or an addition blends in well with the existing community, minimizes the impact on the natural environment, and maintains property values. Planning departments are given the responsibility of developing the procedure which implements the design review policies and regulations approved by the legislative body, the Board of Supervisors or the City Council.
