Abstract
The purpose of a sign is to inform the public. It is a form of communication and advertising, being primarily used for the purpose of identifying a business, its services or its products for sale. Signs are an index to the environment and may attempt to dominate our lives by directing our comings and goings or aid us to fulfill our needs and desires. Signs can also communicate driving instructions by telling a driver what off-ramp leads to a desired destination while others try to squelch our hunger by advertising a myriad of food types. The majority of signs are business signs that attempt us to take notice, stop, and open our wallets. Predominantly, signs are used as a method of building an image or advertising a message.
