Abstract
Increasingly organizations are relying on the network for sharing information and
resources. As the size and complexity of networks increase, so do problems
associated with network management. Simple Network Manager(SNM) is a
network management application that allows the Network Managers to evaluate
and control system performance of all network devices that support Simple
Network Management Protocol(SNMP). SNM's open architecture enables it to
manage SNMP-based multi-vendor equipment supporting both vendor specific
and standard Management Information Base(MIB).
SNM provides an easy-to-use graphical user interface to select the operational
parameters of a network device from the MIB. On user query, the application
retrieves the management information from the device by sending SNMP
requests for the selected parameters. SNM organizes the retrieved data logically
and displays at user specified poll intervals. In addition, this application allows
user to configure a network device by modifying its parameters.
This application helps network managers in analyzing network performance,
detect faults, and configure network parameters.
