Abstract

The heart of this paper is the development and testing of algorithms, through simulation, to predict the future location of an enemy "target" vehicle. It is assumed that our vehicular system will consist of a turret mounting a sighting system and incorporating an autotracker. The autotracker provides position data whereby acceleration and velocity components of the target vehicle can be estimated. Both of these components are used to provide the target future position through kinematic equations. This paper proposes to more accurately estimate the velocity and acceleration components through the selection of different (variable state) Kalman filters. The selection process will be based on the variance or magnitude of the position error measurements provided by the autotrack system.
