Abstract
Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is a significant cost to dairy industries. In the United States, an estimated 640 million dollars is lost annually due to BRD. Respiratory diseases are responsible for 21.3% of mortality in calves and 50.4% of deaths in weaned heifers. Additionally, there are many negative long-Term consequences for survivor calves including poor growth, reproductive performance, milk production, and longevity and can become sources of infection for other calves, and can cause outbreaks after weaning in-group pens. BRD poses huge challenges and economic losses to the dairy industry. This research paper addresses the challenge by developing and deploying Convolutional neural networks (CNN) that proactively detect BRD in cow's cough and alerts dairy farmer. The paper presents prototyping solution of Dairy IoT Cow NecKlace^{TM} as well as its application and experimental results.
