Abstract
This chapter reflects the commitment of San Jose State University to providing opportunities for faculty members to identify personal goals and secure the information and support they need to achieve them as they move through the significant transition from full-time employment to full-time retirement. It focuses on three specific elements of the campus-wide efforts to support faculty retirement transitions-two are part of the slate of offerings pertaining to the preparation and planning stage of retirement, and the third is part of the slate of offerings pertaining to the adjustment to retirement stage. The chapter describes these resources and the evidence that they assist the faculty as they make the transition into retirement, and considers how they might be adapted for use on other campuses. Although campuses typically devote extensive resources to helping faculty launch their careers, they have yet to direct much support, beyond financial matters, to helping them bring those careers to a close.
