Abstract
One of the difficulties that students face when learning aerospace structures is the lack of ability to visualize how the structure behaves, and to relate the simplified models presented in class to the real behavior of the structure. Students learning and understanding can be improved with the use of hands-on experiments as well as with the use of finite element simulations. These tools allow students to “see” the three-dimensional behavior of the structure and relate it to the analytical models developed in class. For this reason, the authors revised several hands-on laboratory experiences and added finite element projects to structures-curriculum of their AE program.
