Abstract

Library Services to Youth of Hispanic Heritage is a 2000 co-edited book by Dr Kathleen de la Peña McCook which includes a series of essays from library leaders highlighting best practices for serving the young Hispanic library patron. This text fits in nicely with other scholarships and efforts made through REFORMA that focuses on promoting library services to Spanish-speaking communities including the youth. McCook’s essay within the book, “Concepts of Culture: The Role of the Trejo Foster Foundation,” focuses on a theoretical construct around the complexities of culture and Latin America. The below article highlights how REFORMA National, REFORMA de Florida Chapter, the REFORMA Research Committee, and the Trejo Foster Foundation have helped shape and support these communities, the contributions McCook have made to the profession, and some recommendations for libraries to better support Spanish-speaking communities, enhance access to information, and foster a more inclusive and engaging environment for all patrons.
