Abstract

Established in 1976 by Dr. Hamed K. Eldin, Computers & Industrial Engineering (CAIE) is a distinguished international journal in the fields of computer science and industrial engineering. In 2026, CAIE will celebrate its golden anniversary. To honor this remarkable milestone, this paper provides a systematic bibliometric retrospective of the journal's publications between 1976 and 2024. The objective of this study is to identify the significant development patterns and leading trends that have occurred in the first half-century of the journal, especially over the past decade. The work mainly uses the Web of Science Core Collection database to retrieve and analyze bibliographic data, complemented by the Scopus database and the journal's webpage. A wide range of bibliometric indicators are adopted to investigate diverse issues including the publication and citation structure of CAIE, the most popular keywords and research topics, the most cited papers, the most cited documents in the journal's publications, the most productive countries/territories, and the most influential journals that are highly cited by CAIE publications. Moreover, by using bibliometrix software, this work also develops a graphical mapping of the bibliographic material for analyzing thematic evolution and worldwide collaboration characteristics. The results reveal insightful bibliometric findings and provide strong evidence that CAIE has been making significant contributions to its continuous development and the advancement of knowledge dissemination across multiple disciplines in the scientific community.
