Abstract
Traditional approaches to cybersecurity have largely focused on technical solutions; while, relegating humans to the status of “the weakest link” in the cybersecurity chain (Goh, 2021; Yan et al., 2018). This perspective, while not entirely without merit, represents an incomplete and counterproductive understanding of the cybersecurity landscape. This textbook challenges this conventional wisdom by reimagining the role of humans in cybersecurity systems. Rather than viewing humans merely as vulnerabilities to be managed or controlled, we propose a shift in thinking toward understanding humans as essential partners in creating strong cybersecurity environments. Robust cybersecurity outcomes depend not only on technological sophistication but also on the complex interactions between people, technology, processes, and organizational structures.
