Abstract
In this chapter, we explore and illustrate the ways in which Sport for Development (SfD) is conceptualised, organised, and implemented in Vietnam. By situating Vietnam, the nation-state, within a historical context and in a contemporary political and social climate, we highlight the working complexities of Vietnamese SfD. Drawing on previous research from the first author, ongoing research, and policy examples, insight is provided into how government authorities, national leaders, community-based organisations, and community members work with and against SDP theory and practice.
