Abstract
Event Description: Communities of color are among the most frequent library users, accessing programs, public resources and other opportunities. Despite this user base, there is an ongoing lack of diversity in the library and archives professions, hindering their ability to better understand and support historically underserved communities. The BIPOC Become Librarians (BBL) project, designed to introduce undergraduate students who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) to careers in Library and Information Science (LIS), aims to reduce the gap. The BBL Project, including a pilot mentorship and internship program, aims to expose students to and provide insight into the LIS profession. Join a panel of BBL students, mentors and program investigators who will share reflections of their experiences in the effort to diversify careers in libraries, archives, and museums.
