Abstract
The Social Work profession plays a significant role in providing welfare and other varying social services to vulnerable populations globally. In the current context of globalization fraught with war and violence; pernicious impacts of global warming and climate change; income inequalities and human rights violations; mass migrations of increasing number of individuals displaced from their places of origin, social workers are increasingly called upon to step up and address the fallout of such problems. In a globalized world characterized by unprecedented levels of interconnectivity, social workers can no longer practice within the nation state boundaries. Consequently, it is imperative that social work education in the 21st century needs to evolve to train social workers in global social work practice.
