Abstract
“Family-Based Programs for Hispanic Families” covers programs specifically designed, or adapted, for Hispanic families. Although Hispanic families cannot be categorized as one homogenous population, there are some shared cross-national protective factors among various subgroups. Family-based programs designed for Hispanic families target evidence-based risk factors such as discrimination, social exclusion, and the impact of society’s responses to immigration. They also address evidence-based resiliencies: Parental investment and involvement, adolescent self-regulation and behavior control, and school bonding. Successful adaptation of legacy programs uses a framework such as the Ecological Validity Framework, which goes beyond mere translation of content to include cultural metaphors and customs.
