Abstract
Over the last few years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has advanced at an unprecedented pace. While this creates tremendous opportunities and possibilities for economic growth, potential risks might emerge if ethical guidelines cannot keep pace with AI’s growth. Moreover, the number of moral frameworks for AI engineers and developers is even less than the number of laws for AI systems themselves. Against this background, this paper uses a techno-philosophical hermeneutics method to extract several ethical themes from the famous cautionary tale Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, and then mirrors those extracted topics in a concrete list of ethical recommendations for AI designers and engineers.
