Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies
Introduction
This issue marks the relaunch of The Beethoven Journal, the periodical publication of the Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies, in an online open-access format. The journal began its life as The Beethoven Newsletter in 1986, and was renamed The Beethoven Journal in 1995, beginning with Vol. 10. Currently at Vol. 35, The Beethoven Journal is the longest running Beethoven periodical in the history of Beethoven studies.
As well as moving to an open-access format, the journal’s publication will now be overseen by an international editorial board. Articles submitted to The Beethoven Journal are subject to double blind review to ensure consistently high scholarly standards. The journal publishes reviews of recently published books and scores, and conference reports covering all aspects of Beethoven scholarship. Additionally, the journal publishes English translations of significant texts that exist only in other languages.
I am grateful to the members of the editorial board, and particularly to Associate Editor Paul M. Ellison, for their expert guidance during the process of moving the journal to its current format. I also thank Jennifer Pesetsky of bepress for providing training and technical assistance. Finally, I thank Emily Chan, Erika Johnson, and Nick Szydlowski at San José State University for their support and guidance.
