Personal Commentary

When I retired from industry in 1994, I thought I was done with my career. So when I was offered the opportunity to teach a course in Accounting & Finance, I thought sure, why not. Well, I fell in love with teaching the first night. The students inspired me to do more, and within two years, I was full time and loving every minute of it. It dawned on me that my previous 28-year career in industry was just preparation for my real career, and what I was meant to do, Teaching. I was also encouraged to start a capstone course in the Corporate Financial Management major in 2001, which evolved into the Sbona Honors Program in 2006. Gary Sbona sponsored the program financially and allowed us to do international travel with students for a number of years visiting businesses around the world. It was this freedom to start new things that inspired me to continue on. In 2010, I founded the Thompson Global Internship Program, sponsored by alum Jim Thompson. This provides students with the opportunity to work in various countries around the world. Both programs continue to this day and I still Direct them! I retired from full time teaching at the end of 2013, but continue on as Executive in Residence in the College of Business so I can continue to direct the two programs. I relish the opportunity to stay involved in the College of Business and provide a valuable service to the students and the University.
