Abstract

This thesis addresses the analysis, design and implementation of a three-tier client server application based on the CORBA standard for the Graduate Application System. The system discussed here is the prototype of the campus-wide Graduate Application Processing System.

This thesis defines the system requirements and specification for the system. It addresses the design of the system using object-oriented methodology. The interaction among the business objects is presented in object diagram. The database creation, the CORBA server object, and the client GUI implementation are discussed in detail. It addresses the system testing briefly.

The prototype system reveals that the new Java-Beans technology combined with the CORBA standard is the right choice for the implementation of a flexible on-line Graduate Application Processing System. This prototype provides a foundation on which a campus-wide implementation can be built. Graduate programs across the university need to make only minor modifications to accommodate program-specific requirements.
