Abstract

This study addresses the topic of how to choose a helical spring from a catalog. The program is written in C and can easily be ported to any system that has a C compiler. The input is provided by the user using the keyboard and from the catalog. The output of the program consists of design parameters and a spring or a range of springs or no spring found.

After the design is complete, the program searches for the best match from a catalog. The benefits of the helical spring selector program are:

The designer or engineer is allowed to spend more time looking at "what if" situations and the design time is reduced and products can be brought to market faster.
