Abstract

This paper examines the revitalization of Downtown Mountain View by exploring the history of Central Business Districts during the Post World War II era. It will also examine the elements that make central business districts successful in both commercial terms and in terms of creating a sense of place. It will also show how Mountain View's efforts illustrate the importance of the link between economic development and cosmetic changes in any revitalization effort. Finally, it will evaluate the problems with Mountain View's efforts and ways to improve its downtown revitalization.
