Abstract
Tolt is a 26,100 word novel set in a small, remote town in rural Washington State. The novel's main narrative, linear in its chronology, concerns itself with the development and impact of the region's agriculture and industry on geography, history, and the lives of the members of the McEnhill family between the two World Wars. The novel's latter chapters focus on the two McEnhill siblings, Sam and Sarah, and follows the complexities of their relationship in the changing geography. The novel is founded in an intertwined mythopoesis: Snoqualmie and Irish folklore actively shape the narrative structure.
