Abstract
The Darkers is a young adult novel set in the modern, though fictional, town of
Story Hill, California. The tale follows fifteen-year-old Annawen Forrester, whose
eleven-year-old brother, Aubrey, disappears one day. As time passes, the family
struggles to move on with its lives, but Anna has difficulty overcoming her grief. When
she learns that Aubrey may still be alive, however, her passion to find him becomes all-consuming.
In the process of searching for her brother, Anna learns that supernatural
forces are at work in her town, in Aubrey's disappearance, and in her own life. A
timeless battle between the forces of Light and Darkness threaten to pull the world apart,
and, it seems, she and her brother are caught in the middle. Anna must embrace her fears
and uncover her destiny in order to find Aubrey because without her there is no hope for
anyone.
