Abstract

University library portals have become important digital gateways for accessing academic information and services. This study examines the current status of library portals of the top 100 universities ranked under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in India. A structured evaluation framework was used to analyze the content and services available on these portals. The framework was developed through expert responses from library and information science professionals and validated using statistical methods. The analysis was conducted using a weighted checklist covering five major categories: general information, library collections, e-resources, library services, and social networking features. Data were collected through systematic browsing of the selected university library portals and organized for comparative assessment. The findings reveal that although most portals provide access to basic information and electronic resources, many lack updated content, interactive services, and social networking features. The majority of university portals fall in the “needs improvement” or “unsatisfactory” categories, indicating significant scope for enhancement. The study highlights the need for regular evaluation and standardization of university library portals to improve their usability, accessibility, and effectiveness in supporting academic users.
