Abstract
This paper adopts a comprehensive and conceptual approach to review the emerging trends and aiding issues in provision of remote library services in Nigerian academic libraries. The COVID-19 pandemic and the mounting requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) have changed the nature of digital library services, prompting the study. The current global trends are characterized by the progressive adoption of ICT, virtual support and innovative models of blended librarianship, while in Nigeria academic libraries show some level of adoption but are limited by critical ICT infrastructure and internet penetration, unreliable power supply and frequent funding problems. Additionally, organizational preparedness and digital literacy of staff are challenges for the effective adoption of advanced 4IR technologies like AI and IoT. Finally, the review highlights the critical need for increased investments in strong ICT infrastructure, training of staff, and strategic partnerships to foster a landscape of accelerated investment in the ICT sector. It recommends actionable measures such as upgrading connectivity, developing digital repositories and encouraging blended service models with a continuous professional development and context-specific strategies to address the digital divide and make information available to everyone in Nigeria's knowledge economy.
