Abstract
This interview with PC Muñoz was conducted by Jan English-Lueck as part of the Mosaic Atlas project. PC Muñoz, a musician, writer, and producer, identifies as a multiracial performer connected to Micronesia’s Indigenous CHamoru people. Topics discussed include how his multiracial identity has informed his music, and his involvement with various arts organizations in the Bay Area including Mosaic America, Quinteto Latino, and the Recording Academy. He also directs music programs at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley. He discusses his use of “slapstick” an electric drum instrument that he plays like a traditional CHamoru instrument. He views that synthesis as a way to express his unique musical vision and cultural identity. He also discusses the different districts of San Francisco as musical venues. As part of the Mosaic Atlas project, Mosaic Staff and Volunteers, SJSU students, and faculty from the Anthropology and Film, Theater, and Dance Departments interviewed people who support and produce art throughout the Bay Area.
