Abstract
This interview with Omar Quezada was conducted by Sukanya Chakrabarti as part of the Mosaic Atlas project. Omar Quezada, a teacher and performer at Casa Circulo Cultural, leverages his multidisciplinary talents to promote Latino and Spanish art, culture, and community engagement. Casa Circulo Cultural, a nonprofit organization, offers a wide range of artistic and cultural programs, including dance, theater, music, ballet, TaeKwonDo, boxing, gardening, and an after-school initiative. Omar integrates traditional and modern elements into his teaching and performances, fostering cultural exchange and accessibility for diverse audiences. Motivated by a desire to inspire positive change, Omar views art as a transformative force for individuals and communities. His dedication stems from the influence of his late teacher, whose resilience and determination continue to guide his practice. Omar’s approach emphasizes inclusivity, working with people from all backgrounds, and upholding mutual respect. He champions art’s potential to unify and elevate society, making Casa Circulo Cultural a vibrant hub for creativity, learning, and cultural preservation. As part of the Mosaic Atlas project, Mosaic Staff and Volunteers, SJSU students and faculty from the Anthropology and Film, Theater, and Dance Departments interviewed people who support and produce art throughout the Bay Area.
